Chicano Movement - Book (Community Context)

Aguirre, Manuel E. Colonialism and the Chicano Community. San José, CA: Marfel
Associates, 1974. Print.
  1. Book: Community Context
  2. Manuel Aguirre (1974) asserts that the best way understand the Chicano community is to look at it through the context of colonialism. The author supports his thesis by first showing how this concept works for the Afro-American community then by discussing ways that it also applies to the Chicano community. The purpose of this book is to tear down the idea that Mexican people are attacking and attempting to overthrow the White community in America. The intended audience of this book is the younger Chicano community that feels oppressed as minorities.
