Hypermediacy: (Deluca and Peeples)
Book: “Hypermediacys are representations conceived of not as
a window to the world, but rather as 'windowed' itself, with windows that open
onto other representations or other media” (Pg 132).
Definition: The logic of hypermediacy multiplies the signs
of mediation. Hypermediacy offers a heterogeneous space, in which
representation is conceived of not as a window on to the world, but rather as
windowed itself with windows that open on to other representations or other
media. For example, the public screen is a scene of hypermediacy. A combination
of “random access” with multimedia – an experience born of TV and computer
technologies, with no physical beginning, middle or end.
Example: An early example of hypermediacy is the elaborate
Baroque cathedral with windows, alter pieces and statues juxtaposed in
contradictory spatial logics.
