Framing and Precis Examples

Framing Examples

1. Amplification: the use of "pro-life" and "pro-choice" as a framework for abortion protests.

2. Bridging: the use of a false report stating that autism is caused by vaccines in order to gain support for the anti-vaccine protest.

3. Transformation: a woman activist excluded lesbian and transgender women from her scope and labeled them the "lavender women." Thus, as a result, the women of those identities formed an organization with the name to reclaim its meaning.

Precis Example

In Heaney and Rojas' article "The Place of Framing: Multiple Audiences and Antiwar Protests near Fort Bragg" written in 2006, argued that the anti-Iraq protest was deliberate in it's placing as a way to frame the movement. Heaney and Rojas develop this idea by defining and explaining types of rhetorical frameworks that discuss the "Support the Troops" slogan. The purpose of the both authors from this article was convince readers that specific places can be used to form protests. The audience of this article is anyone that seeks a role in any protest or considers themselves a student of protest.
