Negotiation
Definition: In Treré's "Reclaiming, Proclaiming and Maintaining Collective Identity" article negotiation is described as one of the three analytical tools needed by groups in order to form a collective identity (903).
Example: In order for the group to form their collective identity they had to use negotiation to determine what boundaries were placed on the group.
From the Text:
"Negotiation entails ‘the symbols and everyday actions subordinate groups use to resist and restructure existing systems of domination’" (Treré, 903).
