(Negotiation)Definition: In Treré's "Reclaiming, Proclaiming and Maintaining Collective Identity" article negotiation is described as one of the three analytical tools needed by groups in order to form a collective identity (903).
Example: In order for the group to form their collective identity they had to use negotiation to determine what boundaries were placed on the group.

"Negotiation entails ‘the symbols and everyday actions subordinate groups use to resist and restructure existing systems of domination’" (Treré, 903).
