Suffragettes (in New Zealand?)
(Ward)
Who-Women that wanted the right to vote.
What-Women protesting to end laws that did not allow them the right to vote.
Where-I have not decided in which country I would like to discuss the suffragette movement, because many of them overlap. However I was considering choosing New Zealand, due to reasons I will discuss in the proof of identity category.
When-Late 1860's-early 1900's
Proof of Identity: Women have been a marginalized group since the beginning of time. However the suffragettes were specifically white women who had the social class position to be able to protest for a woman's right to vote. I may be specifically focusing on women in New Zealand, because they were the first country in the world in which women were able to obtain the right to vote, in 1893 ("Women"). Therefore the suffragette movement in New Zealand occurred before the first World War, giving it a unique context, because all of the other western suffragette movements were affected by World War I ("Women").
