Stonewall

Who/what: Supporters of the gay community protested the oppression of homosexuals.

Where/When: In the Stonewall Inn, police raided the gay bar in 1969. Raids were common within the business, but not on that night. Violent protests would go on for six days.

Why: The reason for the protests were because the homosexual community felt that they were not treated equally in the United States. During the Time of Stonewall, it was illegal to have homosexual sex in every state except Illinois. People could serve a 20-year sentence if caught of the act.
