Superstar Beyonce pays tribute to civil rights leader Malcolm X during her 2016 Superbowl performance. Surrounded by a platoon of female dancers dressed in fishnet tights and Black Panther berets, Beyonce deliberately claims her racial identity and history on one of the most watched programs in the world. Forming a giant X in tribute to civil rights leader Malcolm X, her performance was more than a political moment but also brought a broader cultural significance in an era of Black Lives Matter and currently protests over police treatment of minorities. Even the day prior to her Super Bowl performance, she also releases the video for her new song "Formation", which is considered modern protest anthem.
