Protest Traditions

Protest Traditions: Forms of protest rhetoric that have been used "traditionally" in the sense that they are common throughout historical protests, especially protests with more significance. They are then usually emulated and reused in other protests, mainly due to their effectiveness.

Example of Protest Tradition: Rallies and massive walks were used in the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, and in the Vietnam War protests.

Text: "Invented to protest racial discrimination by restaurants, the sit-in has been extended to churches, libraries [etc]... The mass rally, an old form in itself has been expanded to new locations and new dimensions" (Haiman, 14).
