Who/What: The image above shows a member of the Occupy movement holding up a sign calling for a revolution. The member pictured can't be identified as was the case for many other protesters during the Occupy movement in order to maintain their anonymity. The "object" is the Guy Fawkes mask and its iconic symbolism during the Occupy movement around the world as well as in the US.

Where: The popularity of the implementation of Guy Fawkes masks was evident throughout each individual chapter of the Occupy movement, whether domestic or foreign.  Although the mask has been linked to the Occupy movement specifically over the years it finds its way into protests of all kinds with its connection to revolution and anarchy.

When: The image does not have a specific date of publication or creation. However the Occupy movement began in late 2011.

Why: The use of a mask, specifically a Guy Fawkes mask, calls into question the methods of protest while operating under the guise of anonymity. Not only does the mask hide the identity of the protester but it aligns  the protesters under one "face" or a sense of unity and equality for the sake of their argument.

The identities that this object represent have always been citizens and protesters alike who feel the need to adopt a unifying symbol against governments, or simply and oppressor, in order to fight against inequality and injustice. The mask's origin in popular culture can be traced back to the release of the movie, "V for Vendetta" where it has since been linked to protest against a tyrannous government.
