Who/What: The link above leads to a short HBO interview for the documentary The Loving Story, which aired in 2012. The clip describes the core details of the film and the Loving v. Virginia 1967 court case that inspired its creation.
When/Where: This documentary clip describes a protest of interracial marriage laws that occurred in 1960's when the Loving couple was arrested for their marriage (Bairiki). This Virginia court case served as a very formal form of protest.
Why: This interview clip summarizes why this protest was a worthy cause in the 1960s and why it continues to be of great importance to this day. Court cases such as Loving v. Virginia furthered the goals of the Civil Right's Movement.
Identities: This clip represents the identity of couples whose marriages are denied validity. As shown in the clip, there are many who refused to accept interracial marriages as valid and the protest to advocate for nontraditional marriages continues to this day. The recent legalization of gay marriage is a current example of how this form of protest has evolved.
