Who/What: This photo shows a group of Brazilian citizens protesting FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football. They were angry that Brazil had decided to host the World Cup, and where spending large sums of money on the event, instead of focusing the country's economy on education and health-care systems.
Where:This image appeared in the article "Brazil protests show cost of hosting major sports events", written by Andre Mayer of CBC news. It is available online on other sites, as well. Meaning that not only did people in Brazil see this photo, but people in other parts of the world did as well.
When: This photo was taken in 2013, by Davi Pinheiro, a photographer for Reuters.
Why (is it interesting/relevant): The image, and protest, really underlines the problem a population can have when they feel, as in this case, that it's government has "sold out" it's people and has instead become concerned with money and recognition. It is also interesting to note that, in this photo, the people are protesting FIFA, not Brazil itself. In fact, you can see the flag of Brazil being flown proudly. This shows that while they are mad at their country's decision, they still care for it very much.
