Who/What- #EFFYOURBEAUTYSTANDARDS
#EffYourBeautyStandards was a movement that began on Instagram
by plus size model Tess Holiday, who after receiving hate on social media
started a campaign and Instagram page titled EffYourBeautyStandards (France). This
began as a simple hashtag on her photos, to Instagram and Facebook pages, and
is now a movement that has overtaken a generation. #EFFYOURBEAUTYSTANDARDS has
over 1.1 million posts on Instagram. The hashtag is used by people who do not
conform to ideal forms of beauty enforced by society and the media.
Where-Tess Holiday is an American and started the page in
the United States, but has spread to all countries in which social media such
as Facebook and Instagram exist (France).
When-The page was created in 2013, and continues to post
every day along with users who caption their posts with #EffYourBeautyStandards
(France).
Identity- The identity of this movement began with plus sized
women who do not have their body types represented in media, and criticized by
society (France). Plus sized people are met with incredible stigma and have limited
options in terms of clothing, and this campaign began as a way to change that.
Today the movement has spread to everyone who does not agree with societies
ideal standards of beauty, and see themselves as challenging these barriers.
