Kairos

Kairos

Definition: The opportune moment.

Example: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I've been to the Mountain Top" speech (1968). King's speech takes place in the most opportune time, that is, in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement during it's height.

Example from text: "The context influences the author's rhetorical choices and the audience's reception of the text. Consider a course syllabus, for example. The syllabus is usually distributed on the first day of a new semester, a time in which instructors are often tryin to convey the serious academic nature of their course while also trying to engage students who may be a excited...etc..." (Winet, Jacobson, Tucker; 181). The most opportune time for the teacher to share the syllabus to their class is at the beginning of the semester, rather than the middle or the end.
